International Museum Day in the National Preserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra"

Dear Friends!

We would like to thank everyone who joined our journey through history within the walls of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Preserve on the International Museum Day! The communication in the authentic ancient Ukrainian monuments gives vitality and increases our faith in the proximity of victory over the Russian aggressor.

New exhibitions created for our visitors in April-May 2022, take into account the challenges of the Russian-Ukrainian war, especially on the historical front. Thus, expositions displayed in the Church of the Savior at Berestove of the 12th century will acquaint our visitors with the life of the ancestors of the 9th century B.C., accompany them through the princely times, immerse in the Byzantine reminiscences of the frescoes of the 17th century, and surprise with alterations in the historical environment of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra fixed on maps and plans of the 17th-19th centuries.

On May 18, a walk through the territory of the Upper Lavra with access to the observation platform, visit to the Church of the Savior at Berestove, and to the first tier of the Great Lavra Bell Tower (the 18th century) was free.

Today, the Bell Tower is also a safe shelter. The thickness of the walls of the first tier (8 m) and the overall strength of the building structure saved it from destruction, when a powerful explosion near it almost completely destroyed the ancient Great Pechersk Church (the Dormition Cathedral) on November 3, 1941.

On the International Museum Day, an exposition of plans and drawings of the 18th-19th centuries was opened in the hall of the first tier of the Bell Tower. The exact model of chimes located on the fourth tier of the Bell Tower now temporarily closed for visitors, is also presented on the first tier. It gives an idea of the appearance and clockwork principle. The Saxon Johannes Sare installed this clock tower in late 1904.

All of these locations are open to the public, except Mondays and Tuesdays. We kindly ask you to follow the opening of new expositions, possible changes in opening hours and ticket prices on our website.
