Curious facts about Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Did you know that
building № 3 (Monk’s cells or Choir brothers’ cells) of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which now houses a permanent exhibition of the Preserve “Pages of History of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” (Museum of History of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra), was used as a hostel in the early 1950s?
Since 1949 Technical school for training cultural and educational workers leased the building № 72 from the Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” for auditoriums, classrooms, library, club and management (administration) office of the institution. In June 1951, the technical school received into use as residential accommodation three sections of the building № 3 according to the order of the Committee on Cultural and Educational Institutions under the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR.
Each of the dormitory sections renovated in December 1950 contained four rooms and a corridor. However, due to excessive humidity at the time of transfer, these rooms already needed whitewashing, some windows required fitting and glazing. All transferred sections had furnace heating, two of them had no electrical equipment, and the whole building did not have a water supply (in some sections of the building still there is no drainage and sewerage system).
The technical school undertook to maintain the architectural monument in good condition, carry out current repairs, pay the rent to the Preserve on time and reimburse the utility costs.
