Curious facts about Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
Did you know that at the beginning of the 18th century there were only two sets of plans for the Near and Far Caves?
In 1703, there appeared plans of the Lavra caves made by engraver Leontiy Tarasevych. He fixed the changes in the Lavra caves that happened during the last forty years. (In the early 1740s, those plans were copied and duplicated by another master, Martyn Nekhoroshevsky. The reader, by the way, is invited to find 10 differences in the plans).
In 1705, engraver Mykola Zubrzytski made the perfect copy of the plans of Lavra caves once drawn by master Elijah. The work was done by the order of Archimandrite Joasaph Krokowski.
