in the 1920s and 1930s, some buildings of the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery, that were  nationalized, were used by the All-Ukrainian Polytechnic Courses for People with Disabilities. Established in 1923 on the initiative of the People's Commissariat of Social Security, the Courses aimed to provide their students with general education, to increase their political and cultural level and enhance labor discipline. The Course duration was initially two years, and since the 1926/27 academic year has become three years. Persons aged 18-35 were accepted on to the Courses. Administration, account department, so-called “Dormitories” with a laundry, a boiler room and a turning shop were located in the former hospital for brethren and pilgrims of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, built in 1910-12.
