We continue to introduce the items of the Preserve’s collection to you
Dear friends!
We continue to introduce the items of the Preserve’s collection to you. Today you will get the knowledge about a number of photographic glass negatives with the images of icons on them. The works were created by Heorhiy Popov, the icon painter, in the early 20th century. They were done for the St. Anthony and Theodosius of Pechersk Church with the Refectory, the object of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. In 1908, the artist painted 24 icons for the iconostasis. They were drawn on the copper plates and installed in February 1910. Six icons were created for the Church's “behind the kliros” kiots, two large icons - for the mosaic image cases of the Refectory. Heorhiy Popov's works were fixed on the glass photographic plates. It could, probably, happen in the interval between the completion of their creation and installation into the iconostasis.
