Curious facts about Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
Did you know that in the early 1930s the “Exhibition of the Achievements of the Ukrainian Archeology for the Ten Years of the Soviet Rule” operated on the territory of the State Historical and Cultural Preserve known as “All-Ukrainian Museum Town”?
The exposition was located in the Economic Building (№ 7) of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and was open for visitors.
The idea to create this temporary exhibition arose in 1929 in connection with the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Initially, the exhibition was planned to be open on April 16, 1930, later - in December that same year. However, due to a number of circumstances, primarily because of the absence of some exhibition materials that were not presented on time by several museums and researchers, the final design and organization of the exhibition was completed only in July 1931. Among the institutions that presented their artifacts for the exhibition there were the museums of such Ukrainian cities as Berdychiv, Bila Tserkva, Zaporizhzhya, Zvenyhorod, Zinoviev, Izyum, Korosten, Lubny, Mariupol, Oster, Pershotravensk, Sumy, Tulchyn, Uman. Besides, the exposition materials came from Volyn Central Museum (in Zhytomyr), All-Ukrainian Museum Town, All-Ukrainian Archaeological Committee, and Research Commission on Dniprelstan village (in Zaporizhzhya region). The exhibition lasted until October 1, 1931 and was highly popular.
