Curious facts about Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Iconostasis of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Did you know that the original iconostasis of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (1700), decorated with the icons depicting Father Superior images, had five such kind icons made of copper embossed plates?

In 1769, a number of icons, such as “Virgin and Child”, “Christ Almighty”, “Exaltation of the Cross”, “St. Theodosius of Pechersk” and “St. Anthony of Pechersk”, were fixed on the front, not reverse, side of the newly erected church iconostasis. Today, these artworks are among the best precious items of the Fund collection of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
