We continue to acquaint you with the Preserve’s collections
Dear Friends!
Today we present to your attention glass photographic negatives depicting the interiors of St. Volodymyr Cathedral of the early 1930s.
On April 11, 1930, a branch of the All-Ukrainian Museum Town, the Kyiv Anti-Religious Museum, was opened in the church. The exposition consisted of six sections: “Church Trade”, “Cult of Barbara”, “Cult of Volodymyr”, “Religion and Medicine”, “History of the Cathedral”, and “Art in the Service of the Church”. In the spring of 1933, the activities of the Volodymyrsky branch, as well as the All-Ukrainian Museum Town in general, were strongly criticized. In 1934, the Kyiv Anti-Religious Museum was definitely closed down, and all historical and cultural valuables were transferred to the funds of the Lavra Preserve.
Glass photoplates captured the condition of the historical and architectural monument, as well as some valuable church artefacts that were displayed as exhibits at the Kyiv Anti-Religious Museum during the first third of the 1930s.
Let’s discover the beauties of the Preserve’s collection together!
