Curious facts about Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
Did you know that in November 1929, the Museum of Science and Art Figures of Ukraine of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences moved to the territory of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and joined State Historical and Cultural Preserve called “All-Ukrainian Museum Town”.
Prior to that, the institution was located in 23, Victims of the Revolution (Trysvyatytelska) Str., (today - 9, Desyatynna Str.). After moving to the Preserve, the museum staff began preparing the exhibition named “All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences at present”. The opening of the exposition happened on June 5, 1932. In 1934, the collections of the Museum of Science and Art Figures of Ukraine moved to building № 7 (premises of the Archaeological Museum of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences). On June 13 that same year, according to the decision of the Government Commission on the transfer of the capital of Ukraine to Kyiv, the “exhibits of the former Museum of Science and Art Figures” moved again to one of the rooms of the Museum of Ukraine (Collection of Pavlo Pototsky), located in building № 6 of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
Later, these collections enlarged the funds of the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko All-Ukrainian Historical Museum (later - Central Historical Museum).
