Curious facts about Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Did you know that

after the Lavra fire of 1718, the monastery ordered iron details for the restoration of the Great Church from Naryshkin and Demydov factories? In 1724, Archimandrite Ioannicius (Senyutovych) sent its attorney, Hierochimonk Theodosius, to Moscow and Tula specifically for this purpose. The Archimandrite was more inclined to enter into a contract with the Demydov factory, believing that it produced better quality products. But Theodosius could not agree with the factory owner, Mykyta Demydov on a discount. He described him in the letters as a “tight man”, i.e. greedy. In addition, Kyiv Governor-General Prince Dmytro Golitsyn insisted on concluding agreements with the Naryshkin factory. It is known that the Lavra still purchased iron from Demydov, but all the goods were illegally detained by Mayor Terentiy Masalov, who began to demand a bribe from the monastery. The iron products were still removed after threatening the Mayor with punishment on behalf of the Kyiv governor.
