The Preserve Held Cultural And Art Event On The International Day Of Monuments And Sites And The Day Of Monuments Of History And Culture Of Ukraine

On April 18, 2016, on the International Day of Monuments and Sites and the Day of Monuments of History and Culture of Ukraine, the National Kyiv Pechersk Historical and Cultural Preserve, in cooperation with the State Agency for Promotion of Culture of Ukraine, presented an exhibition by the Ukrainian artist and Candidate of Art Lesia Maidanets “Velykodni Dzvony” (Easter bells), as well as master classes on Easter eggs painting and engraving.

The welcome speech was given by Preserve General Director Liubomyr Mykhailyna, Deputy General Director for Research Work of the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art Liudmyla Bilous, Preserve Museum and Educational Head Oleh Topylko and exhibition author Lesia Maidanets.

Liubomyr Mykhailyna greeted those present on the Day of Monuments of History and Culture and the International Day of Monuments and Sites, and also noted the importance of the reliable preservation of the unique cultural heritage of our people, restoration of that which was lost and the transfer of priceless treasures to future generations. On the occasion of the holiday the General Director granted certificates to Preserve employees and participants of the cultural and art event.

Oleh Topylko called the works of the artist sunny and cheerful, full of positive energy and a mood of optimism. “Lesia Maidanets’ works have been exhibited in galleries of Paris, Magdeburg and Erfurt, Athens, Toronto and Edmonton, Chicago and Philadelphia, Sydney and Canberra. Tapestries and paintings of this female artist adorn many museums and collections in Ukraine, Britain, France, Germany, Greece, the USA, Canada, Australia,” said the cultural and art event leader.

Liudmyla Bilous greeted participants with the opening of the exhibition of the talented artist, who tirelessly continues pictorial tradition of the famous Saienko dynasty and skilfully combines the symbolic history of our past with our present in visual creativity.

Artist Lesia Maidanets also said a few words of welcome and expressed her gratitude for the exhibition opening within the walls of the Great Lavra Bell Tower, and spoke about the special features of her work, particularly about 25 years of work with hand weaving and batik techniques, attempts to preserve and embody the history of Kyiv Rus, Ukrainian and Easter symbols in  pictorial art, and stressed that she did everything possible to bring light and joy to others through her works.

The highlight of the holiday was highlighted with spring time hayivky and vesnianky folk songs performed by the Children's Theatre of Song named Ladonky (art director – Svitlana Sadovenko).

Two workshops were held within the framework of the cultural and art event. Everyone had the opportunity to attend the master class of Easter eggs painting by artist Lesia Maidanets, and Preserve worker Mikhailo Fedoryn introduced the details of engraving technology depicting Pechersk Saints – Anton and Theodosius to the audience.
