Did you know that State Preserve-Museum “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” had almost two dozen tenants in the late 1950s?
The premises of the historical and architectural complex were used by various institutions. Their functions and tasks were often different from the interests of the Preserve, established to preserve and promote cultural heritage. For example, one could find there representative offices of Design Institute of the Ministry of Industrial Consumers of the USSR (building 24), the Ukrainian branch of the All-Union Design Institute of Trade and Catering, the Ukrainian Research Institute of Trade and Catering of the Ministry of Trade of the USSR (building № 9), the Institute of Metal Ceramics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, now known as Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (building № 11, 11a, 11b, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18;), the Ukrainian Branch of the Art Foundation (building № 30), State Publishing House of Fiction (building № 21), Republican Research and Restoration Production Workshops (building № 20, 22, 23), Technical School for Training Cultural and Educational Workers (building № 5, 10, 72), Department of Construction and Assembly Trust “Ukrlegstroymontazh” (building № 26), “Fifth Five-Year Plan” artel (building № 32, 33), etc.
