Kyiv-Pechersk Curiosities
Did you know that
during 1923–1931, the Kyiv Prosthetic Factory of the People’s Commissariat of Health of the USSR was located in the hotel building (Nr. 19), constructed in 1906–1908 according to the project of architect Yevhen Yermakov? There were the director's office, administrative office, general and medical units, club, grinding room, tool room, storerooms, nickel plating room, mechanical workshop, carpentry, kitchen, factory caretaker's apartment, etc. The premises of the All-Ukrainian Polytechnic Courses for the Disabled and the District Archive Department were in the building Nr. 19 together with prosthetic production. In 1931, the factory was moved to Podil district, where it is still located on the Frolovska Street.
