St. Onuphrius Tower of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the Church of the Intercession in Sutkivtsy

Did you know that St. Onuphrius Tower of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra looks very similar to the Church of the Intercession in Sutkivtsy?

The Church of the Intercession is located in the village of Sutkivtsy (Yarmolynets District, Khmelnytsky Region). It is the monument of the late 15^th century. Both buildings are rare examples of the tetraconch-type defensive towers. Despite the fact that the construction of the church in Sutkivtsi started during the Renaissance epoch, later it acquired some Baroque features due to its numerous built-on additions. The existence of the Church of the Intercession is beyond doubt, while the history of foundation and disappearance of the church in St. Onuphrius Tower of Lavra is difficult to clarify due to the lack of sources. They say that the walls of the first tier of the Church of the Intercession were even decorated with frescoes.
