Curious facts about Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Did you know that employees of the Lavra Restoration Workshop of the All-Ukrainian Museum Town in Pechersk, reorganized in 1931 into the All-Ukrainian Art Restoration and Reproduction Workshops, performed orders for the conservation of historical and cultural monuments for a number of museum institutions in Kyiv?

During 1930–1932, the artist-restorer Kost Krzheminsky restored the icon of the Virgin and Child for the then Kirillovsky State Preserve. This icon was painted by Mykhailo Vrubel in 1884–1885 for the single-tiered marble iconostasis of the Kyiv St. Cyril Church.

During the conservation work, the monument was photographed, and upon completion, recommendations were made on the conditions of further storage of the painting in the Kirillovsky Preserve.
