Curious facts about Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

Iconostasis of St. Nicholas Church of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
Did you know that iconostasis of St. Nicholas Church of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, as well as the Trinity Gate Church and the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross, was “decorated” with icons on the side of the altar. The compositions on the reverse of the iconostasis had their own thematic orientation, which was integraly connected to the general theological idea of the altar. On the altar side of the iconostasis there were 9 framed icons (Il. 2): 1) “The Last Supper”; 2) “St. James the Brother of God”; 3) “Saint John Chrysostom”; 4) “Saint Gregory the Theologian”, 5) “Saint Basil the Great”; 6) “Three young men in the fiery furnace”; 7) Sacrifice of King David; and 8) “Manna from Heaven”.
