Curious facts about Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
Thefts in Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra stable
Do you know that the stable of Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery, which numbered more than 60 horses, was the subject for single thefts in the 19th century?
At the beginning of 1822, grooms Kyrylo Zhyvotenko and Stepan Galushko as well as craftsman Hryhoriy Taranenko snatched and sold oats from the barn of Lavra’s stable.
However, the thieves were soon found, and Monastery’s Ecclesiastical Council forced them to pay money to compensate the losses caused by those activities.
