The Ukrainian version of Byzantine iconography became one of the favorite subjects of folk iconography on the Left-Bank Ukraine and Slobozhanshchyna region. In the 19th century, such icons were placed not only in churches but also in peasant houses.

One of them is the icon of the late 18th - early 19th century “The Saviour All-Seeing Eye”. Christ the Child is depicted sleeping on the cross with his eyes half-closed, contemplating his future sufferings. Around the Saviour are instruments of torture: a crown of thorns, a purse with silver coins, nails, a spear, a glove in which He was slapped in the face, and so on. In the distance rises Golgotha with three crosses, on the left a rooster is depicted on a pillar as a symbol of the abdication of the Apostle Peter.

Let’s #stayathome and discover the beauties of the Preserve’s collection together!
