In 1874, a photography studio was opened in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. It was equipped with the best equipment. The monk Eustathius (Gapchenko) became the first photographer. He was known for the artistically executed landscapes of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. After getting the licence of opening a commercial photographic institution, the monastery launched photo printing of Lavra churches, holy things and portraits of metropolitans. Personal and family photos of high quality could also be ordered in the studio. The photographic laboratory of the All-Ukrainian Museum Town continued the tradition of the photography studio in the 1920s and 1930s. Owing to its activity, we can see the development of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra ensemble over the past 150 years.
More than 14 thousand photos and about 10 thousand negatives are stored in the Preserves Collection. We invite you to a virtual review of photographs Memories of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra from the collection of the Preserve. A new series of old photos will wait for you every Wednesday!
Lets #stayathome and discover the beauties of the Preserves collection together!
