Scientific activity of the National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”: cooperation with the international scientific journal “Series Byzantina”

The researchers of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Preserve continue to work actively under martial law. Today, one of the most urgent tasks is to share information about the cultural and artistic heritage of Ukraine with the world. It is our duty to promote the spiritual treasures of our indomitable people in these dark times. The staff of the Preserve provided more than sixty text materials with illustrations for publication on international resources, in particular, on the website of the international scientific journal “Series Byzantina” (http://seriesbyzantina.eu/ukrainica/)

The publications are dedicated to the monuments of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Fund collections of the Preserve, the archeological research of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the city of Kyiv. Some of the materials are already available in Ukrainian and English.

This electronic resource is a part of the eponymous periodical “Series Byzantina”, which has been published regularly for over fifteen years. This journal focuses on the history of Byzantine and Post-byzantine art. A separate heading “Ukrainica” was created since the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine. It contains publications about monuments and museum collections of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Odessa and other Ukrainian cities. The section is constantly updated.

The editor-in-chief and ideological inspirer of the project is a longtime friend of the Preserve, a well-known Polish researcher Waldemar Deluga, Dr. habil., professor, a great connoisseur of Ukrainian art of early modern times and a frequent participant in our Annual International Conference “Mohyliansky Chytannia” (Mohyliansky Readings).

Among the authors and editors of the collection are researchers of the Ukrainian culture from around the world. The biggest part of the Ukrainica section are the works of Kyiv researchers. You can get acquainted with publications about the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, St. Sophia of Kyiv, St. Cyril's Church, the Golden Gate, St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral and others.

Today Ukraine needs our work more than ever!
