Dear friends! Today we continue to acquaint you with the rich and diverse collection of artistic metal of the National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”.
We are completing a cycle of photo stories about the reconstruction of the Great Pechersk Church - the Dormition Cathedral.
Dear Friends!
Our today’s photo story is dedicated to the events that took place during the consecration of the Great Pechersk Church on August 24, 2000.
Did you know that in accordance with the resolution of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR of May 30, 1944 «On the resumption of the activities of the State Historical and Cultural Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”» the institution was assigned not only the territories of the so-called Upper and Lower Lavra with the Church of the Savior at Berestove but also the territory of the Kyiv-Vydubychi monastery?
Did you know that Mykola Gogol depicted the character of his novel “The Viy” (1835), the theologian Khalyava, as a bell ringer, who walked time and again with a broken nose? In addition, the “good luck” of the theologian Khalyava was that he “was the bell ringer in the highest bell tower”!
Did you know that the employees of the All-Ukrainian Art Restoration and Reproduction Workshops, which operated on the territory of the Lavra Preserve in the 1930s, not only inspected and restored cultural heritage assets but also created copies of museum objects?
Did you know that at the turn of the 18th–19th centuries, it was believed that the servants often broke dishes during the feasts in the Lavra Metropolitan's private quarters, and sometimes did not even resist the temptation to snatch something.
